Priorities and progresses of the Government were discussed, on 13 September, by the Prime-Minister Maia Sandu, ministers, state secretaries and advisers of the Prime-Minister’s Office with the team of EU High Level Advisers, with the participation of the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova Peter Michalko.
Our country currently benefits of advice in the following sectors: anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, customs and tax policy, energy, internal affairs and police, confidence building measures, public finance management, food safety and environment.
Prime-Minister Maia Sandu listed the priority reform sectors of the Government, stressing that of justice and anti-corruption, and stated that the Cabinet of Ministers undertakes all efforts in order to ensure the integrity of institutions subordinated to the Government, as well as the independence of those which are not subordinated to it.
Ambassador Michalko mentioned the recently published Report presenting the progress of the Republic of Moldova in the implementation of essential reforms which aim at recovering democratic and good governance standards, so that the citizens will fully benefit of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union. The European Union ‚appreciates the fact that there is political will and opening for the implementation of important projects for the country, especially in the field of anti-corruption and anti-money laundering.’
At their ruen, EU High Level Advisers took stock of the state of play in their intervention sectors, but also presented a series of proposals needed to speed up the reforms in the key sectors of the Association Agreement.
Prime-Minister Sandu thanked European partners for the offered support, mentioning that ‚We still have a lot to do in order to build the institutional capacities so that they work fro the public interest, in order to redo the image of the Republic of Moldova for international partners and investors, but also regain citizens’ trust in their own country.’
The Head of the Executive highlighted her opening towards the proposals of the team of EU High Level Advisers: ‚You are very valuable and we want to learn from your experience. Whenever you have anything important to say, let me know. Open my door, I will be there to listen,’ mentioned Maia Sandu.
Note: The European Union High Level Advisers’ Mission is a team of senior experts from EU member states whose overall objective is to support the Government of the Republic of Moldova to implement its reform Agenda; in particular, to assist in developing the capacities required for the implementation of the Association Agreement (AA), including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), as well as to ensure the necessary follow-up for the post – visa liberalisation stage.
