The EU High Level Advisers’ Mission jointly with the National Commission for Financial Market (NCFM), organize a series of training sessions on consumer protection in financial services. The series will comprise 10 trainings, between October – December 2024, and aims to provide the necessary support for understanding and developing the institutional capacity required to transpose the Directive 2014/92/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on the comparability of fees related to payment accounts, payment account switching and access to payment accounts with basic features.

At the opening of the event, the Chairman of the NCFM, Dumitru Budianschi, thanked the European Union for the financial support provided, mentioning the valuable experience of the National Authority for Consumer Protection from Romania in transposing EU directives, as well as the importance of these training sessions in the context of the NCFM taking on the mandate of regulating and supervising the protection of consumers’ rights regarding financial services.

The EU High Level EU Adviser on Financial Services, Nicolae Grigore, emphasized the importance of ensuring increased financial mobility for retail financial services consumers through facilitating transparency regarding both the comparability of fees related to payment accounts and switching payment accounts, as well as regarding access to payment accounts with basic services.

At the same time, he emphasized that this training session will provide the necessary support for the development and establishment of a uniform set of standards that will facilitate the comparison of services and commissions related to payment accounts and that will prevent discrimination of consumers who intend to open and use a cross-border payment account, based on residence criteria.

Over 30 employees of the NCFM participate in the training session.
